Born in 1964,
During his primary and secondary education in Yecheon, a small rural village of Gyeongsang Province in the Republic of Korea, he was always painting and became interested in the architecture and design related to arts.
After finishing high school in 1983, at the age of 20, he left his family and hometown for Seoul and experienced new world and culture in a complicating urban life, starting to build a life plan of an artist.
In 1990 he graduated from Hongik University's college of fine arts and also earned his master's degree at the Graduate School of Fine Arts of the same university.
In 1990, he founded and participated in "Golden Apple Group", an originator of Korea's new generation, in which experimental artworks and methodology were tried and produced. Among them was a stone which has made a tremendous impact on his art world and has inspired him so much to bring about unique sensibility, emotions and enthusiasm toward art that it has appeared in every piece of his artwork. These artworks have been exposed and shown in a form of group or private exhibitions at one gallery or another, through which his art world has slowly taken shape.
In Korea, he has received Central Art Contest Grand Prix in 1992, National Art Exhibition Grand Prix next year in 1993 and many others.
Starting from his first solo exhibition in 1994, he has exhibited new paintings, drawings, and installations in his biannual private exhibitions. His 40 solo exhibitions were held in Tokyo, Berlin, Munich, and New York and his participations in various overseas art fairs include Art Cologne, Chicago Art Fair, other Europe and US art fairs. Frequent visits to various countries and regions including Europe, America and Africa helped him experience diverse cultures. Having Asia tour covering Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Singapore, he has worked on creative artworks and joined more than 300 group exhibitions at home and abroad.
